Featured Artists

Raven Rock Gallery presents work from local independent artists who we believe deserve attention to their work. We seek excellence in the work of many Vancouver Island artists, artisans, photographers and painters, who reside on or near the island and its local, including a few from the mainland. Check back for updates and announcements as we continue to develop our offerings from individual artists we represent.

JENNY O'DONNEL / WATERCOLOUR / OIL / ACRYLIC

I have always loved Turner’s work. I Love Art Galleries and Museums and visited many on my travels. Impressed by DaVinci, Monet, Van Gogh, Emily Carr, Georgia O'Keeffe and Frida Kahlo, Also inspired by Chinese Ink and watercolour paintings. I began experimenting with a new approach allowing the paints to flow and merge as the sky and sea seem to do and these colours best imitate what I observe. I do intend to introduce colour in the next series. I was inspired by a technique used by Lena Gemszoe a watercolour artist from Iceland. Love the loose flowing nature of how she allows watercolour to flow over a very wet paper. I was really moved by Turner’s paintings at the National Art Gallery in London . I loved the atmosphere and reflections he created of ships on the ocean, in storms and in the early morning light.

CRYSTAL PRADDY / WATERCOLOUR AND ACRYCLIC

Born and raised on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii, Crystal Praddy traveled to Vancouver Island and has been living here for more than 10 years. She has been drawing, painting and creating her own personal comic strips since the age of five. Since then she hasn't stopped creating and sharing her ideas and visuals with the world.

Crystal loves playing around with different mediums for her creations such as acrylics, watercolour, coloured pencils and ink.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree she achieved in Hawaii, she strives to create works that are colourful and vibrant, as well as illustrative, with a touch of whimsical surrealism. She draws inspiration from observing and hanging with animals (especially birds). Using her unique style and refined skill, Crystal commissions pet portraits for clients, and properly manages to capture the subject's spirit in her work.
